People say "don't legislate morality", but.. if that's the case, then why is murder illegal?
Murder and other crimes are illegal because they infringe on another person's freedoms. In the case of most laws it's not a case of was the person moral or not? but rather how did they infringe on the freedoms of another person.Stealing isn't a crime because in the bible it says thou shalt not steal. It's a crime because EVERYONE has the right to property. Legislating morality refers to banning something because people morally object to it. For example is illegal in certain places because a group of self appointed watchdogs think they know what's best for some people.Even though ography doesn't infringe on the rights of ANYONE some people still want it banned because they don't agree with it. That would be like if coffee was banned in Utah because some Mormons don't agree with it.
