Samurai Champloo question?

A friend and i are wondering if someone can help us, we were wondering if anyone knows what type of squirrel Momo is? My friend says he is just a regular squirrel but i think he is a flying squirrel. I know this is a dumb question but if someone could help us it would be great, thanks inadvance.
