What does the poem "Of History and Hope" mean to you?
It is a bit deeper than it seems but basically it begins by talking about how much we like to talk about the past, those who died for us and before us and how we must strive to preserve what they sought to give us. He moves on to how our own children are our responsibility and how everything we do impacts them. We are now the ones who are working toward their future and when we are dead, they will talk about us, what we tried to do and how they can move forward from that. It is about continuation and how we can look forward a bit into the future which isn't even real yet. So history in that our now is built upon all the time past and the hope is our own children and the knowledge, dreams, and aspirations we p on to them.
